The Black Country Cowboy: FILM

Friday

A short documentary directed by Ryan Davis.

The Black Country Cowboy is a short documentary about the remarkable life of seventy-eight-year-old, Stourbridge based country and western singer, Pete Boddis.

It looks at the ups and downs of a long life dedicated to music and uncovers the songs of a classic songwriter that, until now have been overlooked.

Gigging every week since he was sixteen, but never having a recording or publishing deal, Pete has released his music independently for the last fifty-five years.

Over this time he has gained a dedicated following from musicians and songwriters from around the UK, and is now seen as one of the countries great unrecognised songwriters. So much so, that he is known in those circles as The Governor.

The Black Country Cowboy introduces us to the unconventional world of Pete and his wife Lynn, in a life affirming documentary, about how passion for music, dedication and love can get you through the darkest parts of life.

Director Ryan said, “It’s exciting to know that Pete’s inspiring story, and most importantly, his fantastic songs will be experienced by a wider group of music fans.”

The film was nominated for Best Short Documentary at the Lough International Film Festival 2023 and at The Golden Eyes Festival, The London Independent Film Festival and Flat Pack Film, 2024.
